Dental Implants

We never want our patients to feel uncomfortable, and that's why at House Family Dental, we offer a private examination room for patients who may need dentures of dental implants, or who have had extensive dental work done in the past. Please let our receptionist know if you would prefer a private examination room.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the tooth replacement option that is most similar to your own teeth, in both appearance and in function. While no piece of technology is better than your own teeth, dental implants offer several features that aren’t available with a traditionally placed bridge or partial denture.

Each dental implant consists of three main components:

  • The biocompatible titanium post that is surgically placed in your jaw bone
  • The abutment, the attachment piece that connects your restoration to the implant
  • The restoration, which can be a crown, bridge, or denture

After the implant is placed, we allow time for it to heal. During this time, it actually integrates with your bone tissue. This is important because it leads to one of the most important advantages of dental implants.

A symbiotic relationship exists between your jawbone and the roots of your teeth. As the bone holds your roots in place, your roots signal the bone to continue using nutrients to maintain its integrity. When you lose a tooth, this relationship ends, and your bone begins to diminish. In time, the bone becomes thinner and weaker, changing the shape of your face and causing additional tooth loss.

The titanium post functions like your own tooth root and restores this crucial relationship, preserving your valuable bone structure.

What Is the Process for Getting Dental Implants?

The process begins when you contact our office to request a consultation and discuss your options with one of our providers. We will perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether dental implants are a good choice for you. If you and your dentist agree on dental implants as a solution, we will refer you to an oral surgeon, who will place your implants.

After you have healed, a process that can take several months, you will return to our practice, where we will restore your implant with an appropriate restoration, which might be a crown, a bridge, or a partial or complete denture. We have great relationships with trusted oral surgeons in the area and will be in constant communication with your oral surgeon throughout the entire process.

Dental implants have a high success rate and look like your own natural teeth. We are happy to provide a consultation to discuss your options and determine whether you are a good candidate for implants.
