Kid's Dentistry

At House Family Dental, we love treating children. In fact, Dr. House originally thought of opening a practice specifically for children but decided instead to give adults the opportunity for the same great level of care!

We recognize that choosing health care providers for your child is no simple task, and we appreciate and are honored that so many parents have chosen to bring their children to House Family Dental. Both Dr. House and Dr. Driscoll have extensive experience in children’s dentistry, and are dedicated to making each dental appointment a fun and enjoyable experience for your child.

Starting Off on the Right Foot

When children see the dentist regularly from their early years, particularly a dentist who is sensitive to their needs, it sets the stage for a lifetime of excellent dental health. So many people have fear and anxiety when it comes to the dentist, and often that fear stems from either bad previous experiences or a lack of regular care in their earlier years.

At House Family Dental, we want to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

We make dental appointments fun! Your kids will have the chance to earn a place on the “cavity-free tree,” and we also make a point of offering regular giveaways for our younger patients. We’ve given away gifts ranging from electronic toothbrushes to backpacks for school, so you never know what might be coming up next!

Dentistry for All Stages

Children need different care at different stages of development. In their earliest years, we’ll focus on showing you, the parents, how to care for your child’s teeth, discuss issues like nutrition, and address concerns like thumb sucking. We’ll take your child for “rides” in the dental chair, let them explore instruments like the mirrors we use, and, if they let us, take a look in their mouths and do simple cleanings. The goal at this stage is to normalize dental care and get them acquainted and comfortable with the office.

As your child gets older, we’ll begin providing more comprehensive examinations and cleanings and discuss good home care habits with them. If needed, we can discuss orthodontic options and refer to an orthodontist for specialized care. We’ll look at preventive treatments like fluoride and sealants.

As your child continues to develop, we’ll watch to make sure that dental development is on track and address any issues that arise. If your child plays sports, we can discuss the use of mouth guards to protect teeth from injury.

Hospital Dentistry and Special Needs

Both Dr. House and Dr. Driscoll have a background in providing dental care to children with special needs. Physical and developmental differences can affect both dental development and your child’s ability to practice home care and receive care in an office setting.

We believe in providing care that fits the needs of every child. If, for any reason, your child is unable to complete services in the chair, please talk to us. We’ll discuss your concerns and your child’s needs and create an appropriate treatment plan, which may include hospital dentistry.

Both Dr. House and Dr. Driscoll have extensive experience working with children and adults with special needs.  Physical and developmental differences can affect dental development.  We believe in providing care that fits the needs every patient.  If for some reason we are unable to complete services in the chair, we may recommend hospital dentistry as an option.  Our doctors and experienced staff will work directly with you to put together a comprehensive dental plan for that special person in your life.

The ADA recommends your child see a dentist not later than his or hers first birthday.  Tooth decay can start as soon as your child's first tooth erupts.  Parents often ask us why they should worry about tooth decay in baby teeth since they will be replaced by permanent teeth.  The problem is that decay in primary teeth could mean a higher risk of decay in the permanent teeth.  Severe decay can also harm your child's overall health.

House Family Dental accepts Medicaid for both children and for patients needing dentures.  We also take most dental insurance plans.  Call our office today to see if we accept your insurance plan!

If we are providing routine care for your children (a dental cleaning) absolutely.  However, a parent or legal guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18 for dental treatment such as an extraction or a dental filling.  We do require a signed consent from a parent or guardian before we will complete treatment on a child under the age of 18.
